Are You Ready Or Prepared

There is a big difference in being prepared or being ready

Forget Being Ready -

Are you ready or what?!?!?

Do you know how big of a difference there is between being ready or being prepared? I agree, they sound a lot alike. Actually they almost sound as if they mean the same thing. However - not so much.

When you go into a situation, many times you go into it expecting an outcome. Ready for “X” to happen and knowing how you will handle it. Simply put, you’re ready for what’s going to happen. You’re ready for the outcome as you see it.

What do you do though when what you’re expecting as the set outcome doesn’t actually happen? Are you ready for that? Maybe not as much as you may hope - right?

So let’s pause for a minute - what if you went into that next situation prepared? What if you went into that situation for whatever outcome came your way?

Prepared for the good, the bad, the indifferent.

Quick breakdown - When you are ready, you are ready for one set outcome, one way for things to go. When you are prepared, you are ready for that set outcome but you are prepared for any other outcome that may come your way.

Best way to just show the difference is this video. Almost EVERYONE was ready for an outcome. Either a ball is hit or ball missed. Only one person was prepared for any outcome. While everyone who was ready had to duck, run, hide… One person didn’t flinch and was prepared for any possible outcome. And it wasn’t the batter.

How do you want to handle that next situation.

Do you want to be ready or be prepared?

  • Have a plan in place. No matter what situation arises, knowing exactly what steps to take will make all the difference. Take the time to think through potential scenarios and make sure you have plans set up ahead of time should something unexpected happen.

  • Be flexible. Being prepared involves being able to adjust quickly when situations change - so don’t get stuck in your ways! Remain open-minded and willing to make changes if necessary so that you can stay agile even when things don’t go as expected.

It's important to remember that being prepared doesn't mean living a life of fear - rather it's about taking steps now so that when challenges come our way we're ready and able to handle them gracefully!
